installing_comus

This is an old revision of the document!

This is a screen grab tour of what an install should look like for you (look below for info on upgrading Comus). You can click on the thumbs here to see the big images.

To install 1. download the ftp://comusthumbs.com/installct.php file. 2. create a folder on your machine and call it /ct 3. chmod the folder to 777 4. upload the installct.php file to your server 5. open the file in a browser yourdomain.com/ct/installct.php 6 … follow the instructions, they should look like this…. 7. If you need a trial key you can get one here 8. If you need a full key you can get one here

Page 1

Click on the 'Click here to install Comus Thumbs' link.

Page 2

Try to make sure everything is green, then Click on the 'Click here to continue installation'

Page 3

The script will try to download from comusthumbs main site. Click on the 'Click here to continue'

Page 4

It will give you the option to install or upgrade, choose install, for most purposes, if you already have the script installed on THIS domain, then click upgrade. If you click upgrade then it will NOT create the default files needed to operate properly, but it will also NOT overwrite your config files.

Page 5.

This is what you should see next, if you have clicked on the [Install] button. Click on the [Next] button.

Page 6.

You should now be prompted with the database information, make sure you enter valid information. If you do not then the script will fail.

Host: Is the connection address for the mysql database. In most cases this is 'localhost' or 127.0.0.1, in some cases it is your server IP, sometimes your domain, and sometimes it is a special remote IP or domain. This information can be provided from your systems host or server provider. Ask him for mysql information, and if possible show him a screen shot of the form. DB Name: Is the name of the database that the systems admin will give you. Each and every comus site MUST have a unique database name, if they share the same name, your site will break. DB User: Is the user name for the database. DB Password: Is the password for the database.

Page 7.

This is the result of blank information. The script cant really proceed. If you have bad mysql data at this point then you might see an error like this… http://comusthumbz.com/install/installa.gif , note it reports the mysql user/password and database and host that it failed to connect to.

Page8.

If you succeed a connect or not, you should see a page like this next. You can deselect the niches you do not want. Comus is going to try to import some starter galleries into your site.

Page 9.

There was bad mysql info, and you tried to continue anyway.. this is about the only message you are going to see on most forms. Otherwise it will run a diagnostic on the database, import a load of galleries, and throw you to the login page.

Page 10.

If all goes well you should be presented with a login page.

Your password will be 'demo', make sure you change it as soon as possible, or you will potentially leave your site and server wide open.

Trouble Shooting

Quote:

After Page 3 the following message appears “script unpacked click here to continue” but when I click its a 404 error. Why?

The script has tried to download the tar files it needs to unpack the files and one of two things have happened.

1. It tried to run wget to pull the file in, but it couldnt because your server wouldnt let it. Either you have a firewall on the server that disallows FTP connections to comusthumbz.com or you do not have wget installed, or you do not have permissions to run wget, or you do not have a correct path to wget. The installer allows you to set the path to the wget file, comuslooks for wget in the standard locations but if it cant find it, then you can set the path yourself within the installer. Ask your sys admin what the path to wget is.

2. It tried to run tar to unpack the file but did not have permissions or tar was not installed. It is rare to not have tar, but occasionally the script will not be allowed to run it, ususally if this is the case though PHP will issue an error to alert you of the fact. Safemode needs to be off in order to run scripts like wget and tar.
