Remote Installer

What This Page Does

The Remote Installer is a simple tool that downloads and sets up ComusThumbz on your web server. You upload one file to your server, open it in your browser, and it walks you through six easy steps to get the full ComusThumbz package installed. By the end, you will be ready to launch the main setup wizard that configures your site.

Before You Begin

You will need:

  • A ComusThumbz account (or you can create one during installation)
  • A valid license key (purchased from comusthumbz.com)
  • Access to your web server's file manager or FTP to upload a single file
  • A modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari)

Note: Your hosting provider has already set up the server software you need. If anything is missing, the installer will tell you exactly what to ask your host to enable.

How to Get Started

  1. Download the comusthumbzinstaller.php file from your ComusThumbz account at comusthumbz.com.
  2. Upload the file to the folder on your server where you want ComusThumbz installed (usually your main website folder).
  3. Open your browser and go to yourdomain.com/comusthumbzinstaller.php.
  4. The installer opens and guides you through six steps.

Tip: Make sure you upload the file to the correct folder. ComusThumbz will be installed in the same folder where this file is located.

Understanding the Page

Header

At the top of the page you will see the ComusThumbz logo, a row of icons, and a language selector. If you prefer a different language, click the globe icon in the top corner and choose from 23 available languages.

Note: The installer automatically detects your browser language. If your language is supported, the interface switches to it automatically.

Progress Bar

Below the header, a horizontal progress bar shows all six steps of the installation. Each step changes color as you move through the process:

  • Green with a checkmark -- You have completed this step
  • Blue highlight -- This is the step you are on now
  • Gray -- You have not reached this step yet

The Six Installation Steps

Step 1: Server Check

The installer automatically checks that your server is ready for ComusThumbz. You do not need to do anything -- just wait for the results to appear.

[Screenshot: step-1-requirements-check]

What you will see:

A list of items, each with a status icon:

  • Green checkmark -- Everything is fine
  • Orange triangle -- A recommendation, but it will not stop you from continuing
  • Red X -- Something needs to be fixed before you can proceed

If something fails:

  1. Click the Help button next to the failed item.
  2. A window pops up with easy-to-follow instructions for your type of hosting (cPanel, Plesk, or other).
  3. Follow the instructions or contact your hosting provider and tell them what needs to be enabled.
  4. After the fix is applied, refresh the page to re-run the check.

Tip: Most hosting providers can fix any failed requirements for you quickly. Just send them a screenshot of the results and ask them to enable the items marked with a red X.

Success: When all required items pass, a green banner appears saying "All requirements met!" and the Continue button becomes active. Click it to proceed.

Step 2: Log In or Create an Account

You need a ComusThumbz account to download the software. This step lets you log in to an existing account or create a new one.

[Screenshot: step-2-login-register]

If You Already Have an Account

  1. Make sure the Login tab is selected.
  2. Type your Email Address.
  3. Type your Password.
  4. Click Login.

Tip: If you forgot your password, click "Forgot your password?" to reset it on the ComusThumbz website.

If You Need a New Account

  1. Click the Register tab.
  2. Type your License Key in the format XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.
  3. Type your Email Address.
  4. Type a Password (at least 8 characters).
  5. Type the same password again in Confirm Password.
  6. Click Create Account.

Warning: After registering, check your email inbox for a verification message. You must verify your email before you can log in. Once verified, switch back to the Login tab and sign in.

Step 3: License Information

After logging in, the installer displays your license details so you can confirm everything looks correct.

[Screenshot: step-3-license-info]

You will see:

Detail What It Means
License Type Your plan level (Free, Basic, Pro, or Enterprise)
Licensed Domain The website domain your license is registered to
License Key Your key (partially hidden for security)
Expires When your license expires, or "Never" if it is a lifetime license
Skim Rate Your traffic sharing percentage

Review the information and click Continue if everything is correct.

Note: If you see a "No valid license found" message, you may need to purchase a license. Click the Purchase License button to visit the ComusThumbz store.

Step 4: Choose Your Version

This step lets you pick which version of ComusThumbz to install.

[Screenshot: step-4-version-selection]

You will see two options:

  • Stable (Recommended) -- The fully tested, production-ready version. Choose this for your live website.
  • Beta (Testing) -- The latest version with new features that may still have bugs. Only choose this if you are testing on a non-public server.
  1. Click the version card you want. The selected card highlights with a green border.
  2. Click Continue.

Tip: If you are setting up your site for the first time, always choose Stable. It is the safest and most reliable option.

Advanced: PHP Version Override

Below the version cards, there is an expandable section labeled PHP Version for Download. In most cases, you do not need to change anything here -- the installer automatically detects the correct version for your server.

Warning: Only change the PHP version if you are downloading the package to move it to a different server than the one running this installer. If you are not sure, leave it at the default.

Step 5: Download and Setup

The installer now downloads the full ComusThumbz package to your server and prepares it for installation. This step is fully automatic.

[Screenshot: step-5-download-progress]

What happens:

  1. A progress bar appears and fills up as the download progresses.
  2. The percentage and file size update in real time.
  3. After the download finishes, the installer verifies the file is complete and undamaged.
  4. The files are then extracted into your installation folder.

Just wait for it to finish. This may take a few minutes depending on your server's internet speed.

Warning: Do not close your browser tab or navigate away during this step. Let the download and extraction complete fully.

Success: When everything is done, you will see "Extraction complete!" and a button to continue.

If something goes wrong:

If you see an error message, click the Try Again button to restart the download. Common reasons for failures include a temporary internet interruption or limited disk space on your server.

Step 6: Launch the Main Installer

You are almost done. The remote installer has downloaded and prepared all the ComusThumbz files on your server.

[Screenshot: step-6-ready-to-install]

You will see:

  • A success message confirming everything is ready
  • A preview of what the main installer will do next (set up your database, configure your site, create your admin account, and more)
  • A large Launch Installation Wizard button

Click Launch Installation Wizard to open the full installation setup, which will walk you through configuring your new ComusThumbz site.

Success: Once you click the button, the main installer takes over. You no longer need the remote installer file and can safely delete comusthumbzinstaller.php from your server after installation is complete.

Tips for New Users

Tip:
Take a screenshot of Step 3 (your license information) for your records.Always choose Stable for your first installation. You can update to newer versions later from within the admin panel.
  • Do not rename the installer file. It must be called comusthumbzinstaller.php to work correctly.
  • Use a strong password when creating your ComusThumbz account. At least 8 characters with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • If you get stuck at any step, the built-in Help buttons provide instructions specific to your hosting platform.

Troubleshooting

The installer page is blank or shows an error

What you see: A white screen or a server error when you open the installer in your browser.

How to fix it:

  1. Make sure the file was uploaded completely. Re-upload it if needed.
  2. Check that the file is named exactly comusthumbz_installer.php.
  3. Contact your hosting provider and ask them to check the server error log for details.

A requirement check is failing and I do not know how to fix it

What you see: A red X next to one or more items in Step 1.

How to fix it:

  1. Click the Help button next to the failed item.
  2. Follow the instructions shown for your hosting platform.
  3. If you are not comfortable making server changes, contact your hosting provider. Tell them: "I need [requirement name] enabled for PHP on my hosting account." They will usually do this for you at no charge.

I cannot log in

What you see: An error message after entering your email and password in Step 2.

How to fix it:

  1. Double-check that your email address and password are correct.
  2. If you just registered, make sure you verified your email by clicking the link sent to your inbox.
  3. Try resetting your password using the "Forgot your password?" link.
  4. If the error mentions a connection problem, wait a few minutes and try again.

The download fails or gets stuck

What you see: The progress bar stops, or an error message appears during Step 5.

How to fix it:

  1. Click the Try Again button to restart the download.
  2. If it fails again, check that your server has enough disk space (you need at least a few hundred megabytes free).
  3. If your server uses a security firewall, it may be blocking the download. Contact your hosting provider for help.

I see "No valid license found" in Step 3

What you see: An error message instead of your license details.

How to fix it:

  1. Make sure you are logged in with the same email address that your license was purchased under.
  2. If you recently purchased a license, allow a few minutes for it to be activated.
  3. Visit comusthumbz.com to verify your license status in your account dashboard.
  4. If the problem continues, contact ComusThumbz support.

The download finished but the installation wizard does not open

What you see: You click "Launch Installation Wizard" but get an error or blank page.

How to fix it:

  1. Try manually going to yourdomain.com/install/index.php in your browser.
  2. If that also fails, the extraction may have been incomplete. Go back and click Try Again to re-download.
  3. Contact your hosting provider if the problem persists -- there may be a permissions issue on your server.

My session expired and I have to start over

What you see: You are sent back to Step 2 after being away from the page.

How to fix it:

  1. Simply log in again. The installer will remember your progress and pick up where you left off.
  2. If the installer keeps losing your session, try clearing your browser cookies for your domain and starting fresh.
