Autothumb Galleries
The [Gallery Review] section has options to create auto thumb previews.
The system will take a best guess at the best thumb, sometimes it is confused by extra images.
The speed of the auto thumb can be affected by the number of galleries that the system will scan, while looking for a thumb. You can reduce this number and thus speed up the scan by adjusting the 'Max thumbs to preview when submitting' value, currently around setting #69.
The actual image that is scanned is taken from the middle of the set, so if you want to pull different images by default modifying the max thumbs to preview value, will pull different images.
The quality of the thumbs can be controlled in the settings. Look for thumb quality. A value of around 80 is fine, values of 100 will increase the file sizes to about 15k for a 90x120 and 80 produces about a 4k image. I would try to keep sizes under 5k if you are going to keep page load times acceptable for your customers.
There are a number of different algorithms that the autothumb can use to create thumbs, from stretching to smart crop. I recommend the default smart crop because it does an analysis on the skin content of the thumbs and looks for faces and tries to chop out the dead space on images.![]()
